What makes a good catheter?

Cure Hydrophilic Catheter with Supplies

There are so many types of catheters out there that making a decision can be cumbersome. There are also alot of ads out there claiming many different things. So I hope that explaining the different aspects of a catheter will help people understand what is best for them.

And remember it is YOUR choice what you choose. Don't let a supplier choose for you.

Choosing the right catheter is a very personal thing. So one brand might be good for one person while the other brand is good for you. I think that one of the most important aspects of a good catheter is its manufacturing process. Fire Polished eyelets are important due to the fact that it will be less likely to cut the urethera on insertion or withdrawal.

Another factor is if it is made with or without DEHP or BPA. Learn more about the concerns with DEHP/DINP* here.

There are also many types of materials that catheters are made with. There are Latex, Silicone, and Plastic (PVC) catheters to choose from. Each has its own selling point. However the best way to determine which is best for you is to try a sample of each.
